Why Should I Go to Church?
Fr. John Cusick

Father John Cusick, ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Chicago in 1970, is the Director of Young Adult Ministry for the Archdiocese. He is responsible for the Church's outreach to women and men in their twenties and thirties, married and single. The Young Adult Ministry Office and his residence are at Old St. Patrick’s Church in downtown Chicago.

Concurrent with his assignment to the college seminary, John Cusick was asked to become the Coordinator of Young Adult Ministry in the Archdiocese. That position was the first attempt to direct a special ministry in the Archdiocese of Chicago to women and men in their twenties and thirties, young adults, who, though the largest segment of the American population, were becoming less and less active in the Catholic Church.

On July 1, 1985 Cardinal Joseph Bernardin appointed him the full-time Director of Young Adult Ministry. The Young Adult Ministry Office works with local parishes in their efforts at outreaching and inviting young adults to participate more fully in parish life. The Office also helps young adults and parish staffs develop young adult groups for the purpose of gathering with their peers for social, spiritual and service opportunities.

As Director of Young Adult Ministry, Cusick has designed a number of programs, such as Theology on Tap; Rest A Little Retreats; Transitions - A Day to Explore Movements in Your Work Life; Dialog Groups for Young Married Couples, Young Adult Sunday Masses; Catholicism Revisited; PS - Prayer & Scripture; Relationships! What a Trip!; You’re As Good As You Feel; and FOCUS - An Archdiocesan Young Adult Conference, to assist young adults in their own personal understanding of the Catholic Faith.

On August 1, 2008 Fr. John Cusick and Dr. Katherine DeVries launched the Ruah Project, a bold and aggressive outreach to young adults. The Kateri Center for Young Adult Ministry and the Isaac Hecker Center for Young Adult Ministry are the first two of ten regional centers for Young Adult Ministry in the Archdiocese of Chicago.

(Fr. Cusick's biography has been condenced for space reason)

The God Connection: Caring for Self, Nurturing the Other & Loving All Creation

Sr. Edith Prendergast

In a busy, stress filled world we are constantly challenged with caring for self while

attending to the needs of others. Jesus clearly reminds us to love God and your neighbor as yourself.

The session will share ideas for self care that are attentive to our spiritual, emotional and physical well-being, which in turn will sustain and nurture our outreach to others and to all of Creation.

Faith and Facebook: Discipleship in a Digital World

Sr. Tracey Dugas

To connect with people, social networking is where it's at. New technologies are changing how we communicate and make relationships. But for all the cool technology (and it really is cool,) we wonder if we can find our truth as human persons in both our "real" and "virtual" relationships. How can we live God's ways in a digital world? Sr. Tracey will explore how Jesus was a follower of God while still being very much "plugged in" to his own culture. His presence alone redeems all the spaces of life and teaches us how embody the Gospel wherever we go. Together we will learn new ways of discipleship in our digital world.

Sync Your Life With God's Design

Sr. Kathy Bryant, RSC

Learn how to make important decisions within a Catholic faith context using the process of St. Ignatius of Loyola.

For those important decisions about relationships and  work

How will I find my place in the Church?

Is this career my life’s work, my passion?

Is this the person that I want to commit the rest of my life to?

Am I doing too much at my parish?  Too little?

Are my commitments really challenging me to grow?

Should I start my own business?  Or join this company?

Give a few years of my life as a lay missionary? Should I go back to school?

“The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.”  --Frederick Buechner

“There are all different kinds of voices calling you…and the problem is to find out which is the voice of God rather than of Society, say, or the Superego, or Self-Interest.”  -- Frederick Buechner Wishful Thinking: A Seeker’s ABC
